Alicante

Alicante is the capital of the eponymous province and one of the most important cities in the Valencian Community. Located on the Mediterranean coast, it is a first-class tourist destination that perfectly combines historical heritage, quality urban beaches and vibrant cultural life. The city stretches along the coast, offering kilometers of beaches accessible from the urban center.

The most recognizable symbol of Alicante is the Castle of Santa Bárbara, an imposing fortress that dominates the city from the top of Mount Benacantil. This castle, of Muslim origin and later Christian, offers exceptional panoramic views of the city, the port and the Mediterranean. Access can be made on foot, by car or by an elevator carved into the rock. The old town of Alicante, known as the Santa Cruz neighborhood, retains a special charm with its cobbled streets, white houses decorated with flowers and small squares that invite quiet strolling.

The Explanada de España, an emblematic promenade with more than 6 million marble tiles forming a wavy mosaic, is the social heart of the city. This promenade, flanked by palm trees, connects the port with the center and is the perfect place to walk, have a drink on its terraces or simply enjoy the Mediterranean atmosphere. Alicante's beaches, especially Postiguet Beach (next to the castle) and San Juan Beach (more extensive), have fine sand and crystal-clear waters, perfect for enjoying the sun and sea.

Alicante is world-famous for its gastronomy, especially for rice dishes (arroz a banda, arroz con costra) and, above all, for Alicante nougat, a traditional Christmas sweet with Designation of Origin. The city has a rich culinary tradition that combines products from the sea and the garden. The Bonfires of Saint John, declared a Festival of International Tourist Interest, are the city's most important celebration. During the week of June 20-24, Alicante transforms into a spectacle of fire, music and color, with fallero monuments that are burned in the final 'cremà', similar to Valencia's Fallas but with its own identity.

Alicante has excellent connections: Alicante-Elche Airport is one of the most important in Spain for international tourism, and the city is connected by high-speed train to Madrid and other cities. The Mediterranean climate, with more than 300 days of sunshine per year, makes Alicante an ideal destination year-round, although summer is especially popular for enjoying its beaches. The city perfectly combines the tranquility of a medium-sized city with the animation and services of an established tourist destination.
