Do I need a visa for Spain?
The need for a visa depends on several factors: your nationality, the duration of your stay and the purpose of your trip.
- You are a citizen of the EU/EEA or Switzerland
- You are a citizen of the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea
- You have a valid Schengen visa
- Your stay is less than 90 days (tourism)

Important: Even if it's not mandatory, a complete travel insurance is highly recommended. The European health card only covers basic medical care and does not include repatriation, trip cancellation or other important coverages.
Types of visas for Spain
For layovers at a Spanish airport. Does not allow leaving the transit area.
Allows stays of up to 90 days in a 180-day period. Valid for tourism, business or family visits. Allows travel throughout the Schengen area.
For stays longer than 90 days. Required for working, studying or residing in Spain. Requires a more complex process and additional documentation.
Required documentation

What is ETIAS? It is an electronic travel authorization (not a visa) that citizens of countries like the USA, Canada, Australia, etc. will need to obtain before traveling to Spain. The process is online, costs approximately €7 and is valid for 3 years.
Although it's not yet in effect, it's important to be informed about this change, as it will be mandatory to travel to Spain in the future.
