Playa de Merón

Playa del Merón, also known as Sable de Merón, is one of the largest open stretches of beach on Cantabria’s western coast. At over 3 kilometres long, it offers wide sand, energetic surf, and superb views towards Oyambre, Punta de la Silla and, on clear days, the Picos de Europa. It’s especially popular for long walks and for learning or practising surf. If you’re visiting from the UK, US or Australia, expect beach facilities and nearby services in Spain to often follow local opening hours, with many places quieter or closed around mid-afternoon outside peak summer. Tipping is generally modest in Spain and not expected in the same way as in the US—rounding up or leaving a small amount is usually enough when using cafés or beachside bars nearby.
